What I Ate Wednesday: In The Bahamas!

Hi friends! Happy hump day! I hope you are having a great week! After all, it is a short week, so I hope it is going by fast for you. It totally feels like today is Tuesday and yesterday was Monday, but isn’t it great when you realize it is actually later in the week and closer to the weekend!? However, I am not really looking forward to this weekend because it is sadly the weekend Michael goes back to work after having so much time off. Whomp whomp. I am actually soaking up all of the week days we have together for now, because I am in for a rude awakening come Sunday.

Anyways, I wanted to share some eats with you from our Bahamas vacation, so I figured what better way to share than to type up a What I Ate Wednesday post for you!?

What I Ate Wednesday: In The Bahamas!

The food in the Bahamas was absolutely DELICIOUS! All of the chefs, staff, servers, etc. treated me so well considering I am “miss difficult” as I say, being vegan/mostly gluten free, everyone absolutely made sure I was taken care of all week long.

Breakfast:

For breakfast each morning, we went to Casanova which offered a breakfast buffet. The buffet included breads, pastries, fruit, deli meats, lots of breakfast items including: sausage, bacon, breakfast potatoes, french toast, scrambled eggs, & hard boiled eggs, an omelet station, and a pancake station. Of course, I filled my plate with all of the fresh fruit and toasted up an english muffin. Since I am ‘miss difficult’, there was always something that I was requesting every day to some of the staff members who I had running around getting me something that they ran out or something that I didn’t see out in the buffet. For example, there were no bananas to be found the first two days of our trip, so you bet I requested BANANAS from our butler when I found out that there were none at the restaurant in the morning (don’t worry, there were bananas after a couple days), as well as asking for more pineapple and/or watermelon if I didn’t see it out in the buffet when I was making my plate. I realllllly appreciated their efforts to get me whatever I asked for.

Pool side:

Every day some time after noon (because we had no idea what time it was every day), our butler(s) would come by our lounge chairs and deliver us some food! I was always given a fruit plate, which looked and tasted like heaven, and Michael was given a cheese pizza. Let me tell you, every time I opened up the cover to my fruit plate I would scream in excitement because JUST LOOK AT THAT RAINBOW OF A PLATE! Mmmm!

Lunch:

A couple hours after our pool side snack, Michael and I both started to get a bit hungry so we would either go over to The Royal Café, or (most of the time) Spices. The Royal Cafe had a salad bar and a full menu with burgers, sandwiches, hot dogs, and Spices had a full buffet with a chef station. No matter where we ate I would get a plate of salad and some more fruit. Along with that, I would ask for a plain pita bread from either the chef(s) or employees walking around the restaurant making sure the food was full. Once again, I appreciated them going out of their way to find me a pita bread each day when it wasn’t even on the menu/in the buffet.

Dinner:

Dinner each night was absolutely delicious. Our waiter(s) would ask right away if any of us had food allergies/dietary restrictions, which is when I would tell them that I was vegan/gluten free. Most of the time the servers told me that I would be given gluten free bread while Michael was given the ‘normal’ bread, and the chef would come out to talk to me about my meal. Every night I informed the waiter(s) and chef(s) that I just wanted some salad to start, and PLAIN steamed veggies for dinner with some plain steamed rice. At that point most of them looked at me like I was a crazy person and asked if I wanted any pesto sauce, oils, seasoning, etc. on any of it which is when I told them all that I promised I would think everything was super delicious if everything was PLAIN. So, plain is what I got (most of the time), and I was loving it! The more colors in my plate, the more delicious it was that’s for sure!

Night time Room Service:

Every night before our butler(s) left for the night, he/she left us some room service in our room for when we returned later that night. My fruit plate was exactly what I needed at the end of the night, especially since we were out WAY past my bed time every night.

And there you have it, folks, my eats from the Bahamas! Lots of fruits, lots of veggies, and lots of colors! Sometimes I hear people tell me that they think you can’t “eat healthy” and “eat your normal diet” on vacation, and while I was enjoying myself and stuffing my face with lots of fruit, I never felt sick, and my stomach never hurt or anything because of what I was (or wasn’t) eating. By all means, I definitely think you should enjoy yourself and indulge a little more than you usually do while you are on vacation, but you actually can still eat like you normally do on vacation…especially at resorts and places that are sensitive to any food allergies and dietary restrictions if you have any. This is one of the main reasons why I love going to Sandals, because I know that I will be taken care of and I don’t have to worry about what I am eating.
